What Do You Want From Life? - Ever Changing Priorities
What Do You Want From Life?
Each one of us will answer it differently. Each one of us will give different answers at different phases of life.
At 16, my priority was to write poetry for Abhi.
At 17, it was going to engineering school.
At 22, it was to be loyal and committed to what was assigned to me.
At 24, finding my dream job was it.
At 27, a child was my priority.
At 30, my child's health was my first priority.
At 33, survival was my priority.
At 38, I sit here and write this. I have responsibilities. I have things I want to do. I have a day to day life I need to live. As I sit here, I no longer have a priority.
I want to be a good enough mom to raise my two kids.
I want to be a good enough friend my friends can lean on.
I want to be a good enough employee at my job.
I want to write.
I want to paint.
I want to travel.
I want to look at the world from a distance and see it for what it is.
It is beautiful.
People are beautiful.
What do you want from life is decided by you. It might involve hard work, difficult choices, sacrifices, compromises. As long as it is what you want, you will do it all with a smile in your heart.
To me, there is one priority I have not mentioned. Love.
To love and be loved.
It was a priority for me a year ago.
I have prayed for it, asked for it. And it was given to me. For a brief period of time. With a great lesson.
I got half of what I asked to keep.
So, it is no longer a priority.
It has become as easy and effortless as breathing.

"I have loved you. And will love you always. But I can't be with you."
It is a blessing that you do not need someone's permission to love them, isn't it?
In Man's search for meaning, Viktor Frankl describes finding meaning in suffering. Not in a bad way. But a way to live a more fulfilled life.
So, what do you want from life?
