Self-preservation
Self-preservation is one of the basic instinct of any living organism to survive.
It is being said that after a traumatic event system would go into a permanent alert mode for a possible return of the danger.
The downside of such self-preservation mode is that it also has fear and aggression built in it. These people are wired to scare you with their strong reactions. They go into places where love is needed with doubt and fear.
Joseph Campbell writes "When we quit thinking primarily about ourselves and our own self-preservation, we undergo a truly heroic transformation of consciousness."
People who come out of trauma experience self-preservation instinctively. Most of us repeat some versions of trauma repeatedly till we break out of it. Being aware of this can help us let go of the permanent mode of fear and doubt and embrace love. Its easier said than done. I am struggling with the same at this very moment. I would like to walk through life with love held in my heart, not fear.
So, I tell my dear heart to hold on and keep moving. I hope you do the same.
